Perfectly imperfect Travel Cups .... There are so many variables in ceramics and so many stages where things can go wrong. Sometimes it’s a miracle that anything survives! My last glaze kiln firing over fired. This means that it took longer to reach the scheduled 1220 degrees centigrade and so the heat work was increased and we reached cone 9 instead of cone 6. (If anyone wants to know what on earth that means I’m happy to explain more!!). The clay I use normally shrinks during the making process by about 12%...... the extra heat caused the shrinkage to increase to about 14% ....... this means that the travel cup lids don’t fit these cups. It also means that with the extra heat there are some pretty epic glaze results! These little beauties are the perfect at home cup.
