A talisman is an object that someone believes holds magical properties that bring good luck to the possessor or protect the possessor from evil or harm. Throughout human history and across all cultures symbols have been impregnated with meaning. Through history as different cultures collided and religions clashed many symbols remained a constant.
The Talisman Wall Hanging collection contains pieces that are all different and unique and also come with their own meaning, story to tell and wish for you which is described in the Carys Oracle Card that comes with your purchase. The threading of the Talisman takes on the old magic of witches ladders where it is said that at the tying of the last knot, all the energy is directed into the cord and its knots, with a final visualization of the object of the work. The power has been raised and is now 'stored' in these knots in the cord.
These wall hanging is made by hand throwing a slab of clay and then cutting the design. The pattern is applied using different colour clay slips, hand cut Japanese tissue transfer and hand painted oxide. I use wax resist to build up the layers of pattern. The 12 carat gold lustre is applied to the glaze fired piece and left to cure for a number of days before having a third firing. Each piece is unique whilst complementing the rest of the series. Once the ceramic pieces are completed they are assembled with added found materials.
